Say hello to Zoey...

She just turned 1 and I was hired by an ex-coworker to bake a cake for her friends (Zoey's owners) to celebrate her bday (LOL).

she looks so darn cute in this picture... look at that face :)

The order was for a Domincian cake with Dulce de Leche filling topped with a figure of the birthday girl, Zoey :)

I have to admit, I was really worried about making a pitbull.  Pitbulls are NOT in any way, shape, or form cartoonie (which is how I would describe my fondant work).  They're the total opposite so... to say I was worried, is an understatement (LOL).  But... I put all of my worries aside, put my "big girl panties on" (Ala Caroline from The Real Housewives of NJ), and got to work :)

So... I made Zoey, a dog house, a bone and a bowl of food... check it out...

The customer just picked up and was super excited... I hope her friends enjoy it :)

A very sweet baby shower...

Last weekend, I was hired to bake for a baby shower.  I was sent the following picture to use as a reference for the cake topper...

Here's my lamb and his little chickie pal...

They were sitting in the "clouds"together enjoying a good book...

The cake was super YUMMY!!!  The top tier was Vanilla with chocolate buttercream filling and the bottom was Red Velvet with cream cheese icing :)

I used my Circut Cake [CC] to make the letters and I LOVE the way they came out...

This cake was accompanied by a dozen YUMMY "Cocoa for Bananas" cuppies... a chocolate and banana cuppie glazed with a rich chocolate ganache topped with a chocolate buttercream swirl.  Each cuppie was topped with a decorative fondant topper.  I think they came out really cute!!!

fyi... This was the first time I've ever used my CC for cuppies... I made abc, 123, and baby lambs :)

They were really cute but you can't tell b/c the picture looks funky (I'm sorry!).
I guess I'll have to brush up on my photography skills going forward (LOL).

Enjoy :)

My 1st Handbag...

I've been waiting for the opportunity to make a Handbag cake for what seems like an eternity (LOL).
So... last night, I had some "free" time on my hands and decided to give it a whirl.

FYI... "free" time = Son + Husband (bathed + tucked away in their beds)

This cake was very last minute.
I didn't have a design concept or my colors mapped out... I just went with the flow (LOL).

I'm sure there are a million and one ways to do this but... this is how I did it...
  1. I started off with an 8" round Lemon cake
  2. The cake was then leveled and cut right down the center making 2 semi-circles
  3. The 2 halves were filled with a cream of dulce de leche and coconut (YUMMY!!!) and turned on it's side
  4. the "semi-circle" was then placed on a cake round (cut to size) and then placed on the leopard cake board (which I quickly assembled last night)
  5. the "semi-circle" was then crumb-coated with buttercream (chilled) and covered with fondant
  6. and then last and final step (my favorite)... the details were added
*** I wish I would've taken pictures of the steps listed above but... maybe next time :)

As you can see, this cake is pretty plain.
I could have done so much more to it but... for my 1st Handbag, I think I did a pretty good job.
I actually LOVE the way it turned out and I hope you do too :)

Enjoy :)

Pokemon

Last weekend I had my first Pokemon order for my nephew's 9th birthday.
and... Since my son's still not into Pokemon (because he's too young), I had to do some research.

so... I found this pic online, chose 3 characters and let the creative juices flow (LOL)...

Here are my cuppies...
A YUMMY mix of vanilla and chocolate cuppies with vanilla and chocolate buttercream :)

a closer look...

another successful order (Thank God!).
The customer was happy and I received GREAT feedback :)

Pretty. Simple. Feminine.

For those of you who don't know, if I ever have time to spare, there's a 95% chance you'll find me in Michael's or A.C.Moore (my local craft stores).  Walking up and down each and every aisle...  getting inspired by all of the pretty colors and prints :)

9 out of 10 times, you'll find me in the baking aisle (of course), the scrap booking section, or the ribbon department.  Becuase... Not only do I have to scope out all of the new Wilton baking/decorating products, I MUST stock up on card stock and ribbon (LOL).

For instance, this MINI cake was totally inspired by one of my most recent card stock purchase...

This paper is beautiful... I absolutely LOVE the print and the color combination!!!
It totally inspired me to bake (LOL).  And... the only way to compliment this print was to go "simple".

Not only did I LOVE the way the cake turned out but... it was moist and delicious too :)

It was a "Cocoa for Bananas" cake... rich chocolate cake baked with chunks of bananas and filled with a chocolate ganache... YUMMY!!!  It was definitely one of my best cakes :)

A "piece of cake"

I was hired by my friend to make her birthday cake.  When I asked her what she wanted, she was pretty much open to anything.  Her only request was for it to be pink, really cute and girly and she mentioned that she likes hearts and stars.

I thought this would be the perfect opportunity for me to try something different... something that would test my skills as a baker/decorator (LOL).  So... After brainstorming, I came up with a super cute idea.  I've always wanted to make a cake like this but I wasn't sure I could.  But... I decided to take the risk and I'm happy to report that it came out really nice :)

Here's my very first "piece of cake" birthday cake (LOL)...

The cake was chocolate with chocolate buttercream filling so... I made the "inside" of the cake chocolate too... YUMMY!!!

Here's a close-up of the "slice of cake" topped with 2 pink hearts...

and... of course, I used my cricut cake for the lettering...
I am totally in LOVE with my CC... It's awesome!!!

I hope my friend likes the look of her cake and the taste too :)

Enjoy the rest of your week and thank you for stopping by!
